MY YACHT PROJECT - Midterms

for my Capstone Project I decided to design a mega yacht (335 ft long) for Ralph Lauren.

The yacht is a combination of different facility types; Spa, Retail, Restaurant, and staterooms.

For midterms we had to have 60% of our project completed, so there ya go:

THE HEDONIST

THE HEDONIST IS AN OUTSTANDING LUXURY YACHT BUILT BY ART OF KINETIK WHICH FEATURES AN INCREDIBLE EXTERIOR DESIGN, MODERN INTERIOR AND IMPRESSIVE LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE.

repetitions

Nature can produce some amazing forms and shapes, but when you see these organic and natural shapes in a repetition it really emphasizes the overall shape and beauty of the object. I am really drawn to the change in size while maintaining the overall shape and creating almost like a vertical line.

perspective drawings

During this quarter I studied the effects of light on furniture and had to do a few sketches of perspectives for my lighting class. Although this sketch does not represent any lighting, I really loved the way it came out overall and wanted to use it as an inspirational image that i created! i definitely improved in perspective drawing over the course of 3 years at SCAD! and now drawing perspectives is one of my favorite drawing techniques.

KANDINSKY

Being born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, As a child i was exposed to European art and European artists such as Kandinsky. My mother told me that a day before i was born she was standing in Saint Petersburg in The State Hermitage Museum starring at kandinsky and sketching observations of his insight on life through his paintings for one of her art histpry classes. Kandinsky's art inspires me to thik of lfe differently because he did.

GAUDI

Gaudi is to me one of the most influential architects in the world. He's ambition to stand out and be set apart from the rest of the architects is very evident in his style of design and thinking. This image inspires me because it shows how something that is different and pushing the envelope could be so culturally influential and unique.

NEO BAROQUE

Timeless, yet modern … Glamor by Eurolegno is Neo Baroque Furniture for the bathroom. The surprising mix between classic and contemporary captures enduringly popular details of design and brings them totally up to date. Straightforward geometrical shapes make up the bathroom cabinets in black, white, iris and pink lacquered finishes, as well as polished rosewood. In contrast to their solid contemporary forms, the cabinets feature stunning decorative elements in luxurious chrome and gold satin finishes. Handles, legs, and accessories (such as mirrors and rails) are made up of soft, stylized scrolls. This style of design and furniture really inspires me because of the classical touch to it, it feels very cozy while maintaining its feminine glamour.

QATAR NATIONAL CONVENTION CENTER

It is nice to see that designers creating large building projects like the Qatar National Convention Center QNCC by Yamasaki Architects of Japan are focusing their collective talents on ecologically conscious buildings. The QNCC to open in 2011 will be the first to have the label of a Gold Certification of U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED). Among the state of the art visuals will be all the amenities of a world class convention center within its 177,000 sq meters space. The projects total energy consumption will be supplied in part by 3,600 sq meters of solar panels to help reduce its dependence on fossil based fuels. (FURNITURE FASHION MAGAZINE).

This image inspires me because of the amazing architectural elements in it, the columns that hold the roof. The columns resemble a tree and it is very cool because this building is Gold LEED certified, and the interaction of the sustainable materials together with the organic-like design makes it look even more sustainable.

SWEETS!

These images inspire me because i have the biggest sweet tooth!! the bright colors intensify my senses and make me want to go get something sweet to eat. The candy image is my favorite candy of all times, i used to always get bags of it and it reminds me of my childhood. I feel that the colors are almost most of the images focus, if the cupcakes for example were colored in dull colors such as grays and maybe browns i wouldn't be as attracted to the image as i am now.
